Construction holds steady

Housing leads the way - up 12.6%.

Construction output increased by 0.7% in October compared with the same month in 2015, according to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics. All new work increased by 2.9% but repair & maintenance fell 3.2%. New housing saw the biggest upwards contribution with an increase of 12.6%.

In the three months to the end of October, output decreased by 0.6% compared with the previous three montha. All new work increased by 0.1% but repair & maintenance fell 1.9%.

New orders for the construction industry in Quarter Three (July to September) were estimated to have decreased by 2.4% compared
with Quarter Two (April to June) this year. Public new work other than infrastructure and housing fell by 24.8%, while infrastructure increased by 22.4%. Quarter Two this year saw the highest level of new orders since Quarter Two 2009 at £13.4billion-worth. Despite the quarter-on-quarter fall in Quarter Three the level of new orders remains high at a value of £13.1billion.
