23-year-old killed under overturned digger

A 23-year-old man working on the construction of student accommodation in Lincoln died yesterday (9 January) after being trapped under a digger that overturned.

The man was working for Chesterfield-based groundworks subcontractor Melfort Construction Services on the site. Lindum Group is the main contractor.

Lincolnshire Police say: “Next of kin have been informed and we are now working with the HSE to establish the circumstances of this tragic incident.”

Eyewitness Rebecca Ransome, a 21-year-old Unviersity of Lincoln journalism student who lives nearby, told LincolnshireLive that fire engine sirens were heard at about 11.40am. “All the workers had been taken off the site and they weren’t allowing anybody up there at all."
