Albion Stone's mines join up under Portland

Albion's mines join up under the island of Portland in  Dorset, where the famous limestone that has built London for 400 years comes from.

Albion Stone, which mines limestone from the Dorset island of Portland, has joined up its two Portland Stone mines.

The breakthrough between Bowers and Jordans mines, creating one working area, happened last month (November).

Having two openings to the workings will assist with mine ventilation as well as providing a shorter haul route for mined blocks, increasing efficiency. And there will be a second means of escape in an emergency.
