Indigenous stone : Stirling work

The photograph (right) shows Kenwood Place in Hampstead, London, where Stirling Stone companies won the £2million stone package to supply and fix 350m3 of Brownieside sandstone cladding on each of three buildings in the 10-acre grounds of the former stately home of Athlone House in Hampstead. The same distinctive, warm pink-to-purple colour stone was also used in external landscaping.

The stone was all quarried, produced, designed and installed by in-house Stirling Stone companies working with architects Hamiltons in London and main contractors Kier London. Brownieside is quarried near Alnwick in Northumberland. It is one of five stones quarried by Stirling Stone group company Natural Stone Quarries.
