Contemporary Art

Architects RMJM Scotland intended to fuse art and architecture with their Lottery-funded Tron Theatre in Glasgow, which features more than 350 square metres of Burlington\'s Kirkby natural stone from the Lake District. The blue/grey stone with a honed finish has been used to create a cantilever effect on one of the external walls while inside the stone flooring appears to lift up towards the clad walls. The stone has also been used on bar tops and as blocks to create a visual focal point in one of the main hallways.

Malcolm Hatch, Burlington\'s joint managing director, said: The use of stone in such an imaginative and striking way shows what a versatile material it is. Seeing it used in such a contemporary setting is extremely exciting.
