Eco Friendly Tiles launched

A new company is opening in London as Eco Friendly Tiles. They say sustainable sourcing, driven by legislation and opinion, is the future.

They have already been invited to participate in the ‘Eco House’ at the Ideal Home Show in Earls Court 11-27 March.

Eco Friendly Tiles are based in Parsons Green, London SW6. They plan to have relevant eco-verification on all their products. On a holding website published ahead of the launch of the company in February they say: “The planet. You. Me. Together, we share a responsibility to minimise our impact on the environment. At Eco Friendly Tiles, we’ve chosen to be the UK’s first CarbonNeutral® tile company. It’s the right thing to do. Full stop.”

CarbonNeutral is a trade mark used by The Carbon Neutral Company, which organises carbon offsetting. In Eco Friendly Tiles’ case the offsetting, which includes the transport involved, will be against wind generation of electricity in various parts of the world.

“I think we’re ahead of the curve, especially in the tile industry,” Managing Director Brandon Newhouse told NSS.

He says Island Stone’s products have always been environmentally friendly. Their stone products are made in Indonesia from offcuts of stone that has been sawn for slabs or from pebbles gathered from a river, with only one in ten of the pebbles being taken and the supply being constantly replenished by new pebbles brought down by the water.

They say their target audience is designers and architects.
