National Masonry-sponsored boxer retains title

While the Froch and Groves re-match in front of 80,000 at Wembley grabbed the headlines, another less publicised re-match saw Duncan McLean, the martial arts show fighter sponsored by Andy Bell of National Masonry (Andy is in the picture on the right of the line-up in the ring with Duncan) retained his UK Muay Thai North East Area title in his first defence of it. 25-year-old Duncan, born and bred in Durham, trains at Unity Gym in Bishop Auckland, where Andy, the proprietor of National Masonry, the stone machinery, tools and consumables supplier, also trains. Duncan’s passion is for martial arts, but he also has a degree in biology and a Masters in international business management. It was this combination of brain and brawn and a clear determination to succeed that persuaded Andy to support the fighter in his bid for greater honours. Duncan’s next big bout is on 27 July against Brad Conway, although he hopes to get in a bout at the end of June just to keep himself ring fit.
