Hot Mixed Lime Mortars Seminar & Workshop, Coventry Cathedral, 20 October

If you are working with stone in the heritage sector you have probably heard about hot-mix lime. If you haven't, you can read more about it here. Either way, if you want some hands-on experience of it, there is another all-day seminar and workshop being held in the Chapter House at Coventry Cathedral on 20 October. If you have not been to one, it is well worth going.

Some of the exponents of hot-mix lime mortars have become almost evangelical about it. Which is not to imply there is any reason why they shouldn't be. Exponents say there is a lot of evidence that this is how lime mortars, plasters and renders would traditionally have been prepared and they should be again in the true spirit of conservation – indeed, they are being.

The Coventry Cathedral event starts at 9am and finishes at 6pm. It is a longish day, but if it is like previous events of this kind it is unlikely you will get bored.

The performance of hot-mix lime (and other types of lime mortars, come to that) is always under investigated and the subject of heated debate. If you want to be better informed about the hot-mix side of the debate, you will be by the end of this seminar, which is being organised by the Building Limes Forum, sponsored by Historic England and supported by the Institute of Historic Building Conservation.

There is a charge of £100 to attend (£80 for Members of the Building Limes Forum). That will include lunch. You have to fill in a booking form, which can be downloaded at buildinglimesforum.org.uk. If you want to know a bit more about the event, click here or on the PDF symbol below, or if you have a specific enquiry email admin@buildinglimesforum.org.uk.
