Wells Stone Carving Festival, Wells, Somerset 5-7 May

Taking place at The Bishop's Barn, a medieval tithe barn in the heart of the city, a group of talented stone carvers from across the UK will spend just three days turning a block of stone into a piece of sculptural artwork.

The artists will be given the same size and type of local stone and the theme of Medieval England: Knights, Bishops & Kings - a brief which covers heraldry, the church, the crown, crusades and grotesques.

Come and see the dedication and skill this unique craft requires firsthand, try your hand at letter cutting and carving, or bid on the artwork you'd like to own on the final day auction.

If you're a stonemason or carver and you'd like to be involved, email paul@somersetstonemasons.co.uk.

  • Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
  • Artists will be able to camp near to the carving location and will be provided with breakfast, lunch and refreshments.
